In Bestuursakkoord is voor de gebouwde omgeving de doelstelling opgenomen om nog eens 2,5 petajoule aan energie te besparen voor 2020 en in 2040 moeten alle gebouwen energieneutraal zijn. Dit geldt dus ook voor het sportvastgoed in Nederland.Teneinde de noodzakelijke energiebesparing te behalen binnen de sportsector is het ministerie van VWS op zoek naar innovatieve energiebesparings- en opwekkingsmethoden die gaan bijdragen aan energie neutrale sportaccommodaties.
